Many of us take up the game of golf as a way to relax and unwind. It works very well for that purpose. Golf is also a sport, one that requires you to be fit for golf if you are to play your best.

This action is repeated multiple times during a single round. Warm ups on the range, practice swings and the actual swing all add up to over 100 full swings for each round of golf.

The swing involves a set of swing mechanics, proper posture, speed and power. To play your best golf you need strong muscles to swing with power while maintaining balance producing an accurate shot.

The other important thing to think about is that being fit for golf will not only help you play better, it will also reduce the risk of injury. Many of those golfers with joint, muscle, ligament and tendon injuries are the victim of an out of shape body.

These folks can often be found with wrist, shoulder and hamstring tightness and pain. Let’s not forget about the most frequently seen golfing injury, the lower back.

If you are not in the best shape for golf you are likely experiencing some pain and stiffness after playing a round of golf. You need to be careful not to hurt yourself.

It is difficult to play well for an entire round if you are not fit for golf. Muscle and mental fatigue will set it to sabotage your swing. That can be extremely frustrating, particularly if your group includes someone who is in shape.
