The 17-30 lost in the AFC Championship game is still fresh in the memory of the Jets players that will seek revenge on Wild Card Weekend against the Colts.

For the seventh time in eight seasons the Indianapolis Colts won the AFC South title. The turning point of their season was on Week 14, where they arrived with a 6-6 balance that placed them in second place behind the Jacksonville Jaguars that where 7-5 after 13 weeks. A road victory by 30-28 against the Tennessee Titans began with the four-game win streak (defeated Jacksonville by 34-24, Oakland Raiders by 31-26 and Tennessee again by 23-20) that made the division leadership take-over possible.

Quarterback Payton Manning threw for his fifth consecutive +4000 passing yards season, and just like in 2009 the 34-year old veteran recorded 33 touchdowns, but suffered one more interception -17- than in the previous year.

The Colts only lost two times at home this season, winning the other six games that that they played at the Lucas Oil Stadium in downtown Indianapolis -these two losses where to the San Diego Chargers by 36-14 and to the Dallas Cowboys by 38-35 in overtime-. On January 8 they will receive the New York Jets for the AFC Wild Card Round that will dictate who plays the Pittsburgh Steelers in the Conference semifinals on January 15.

The NY Jets happen to share the same road record that the Colts have at home (6-2), which talks about how close this game could be. With an 11-5 mark they won a wild card, after seeing how the New England Patriots clinched the East Division thanks to a 14-win season.

A season that began with the left foot after losing at home 10-9 to the Baltimore Ravens quickly suffered a 180-degree turn for the Jets that connected five wins in a row between Week 2 through 6. This steak was interrupted by a home defeat to the Green Bay Packers on Week 8 by 9-0 right after their bye, but it was shortly overcome with 4 victories in a row. Up to Week 12 they where able to keep up with the Patriots pace, but in the last five games of the season they failed to win three of them while New England continued performing at full throttle wining the five of them.

In his second season in the NFL quarterback Mark Sanchez has done pretty important advancements from his rookie year by improving all of his numbers: 3291 passing yards over 2444 from 2009, as well as 17 touchdowns and 13 interceptions over the 12 and 20 respectively. Despite experiencing some problems with his shoulder, head coach Rex Ryan has confirmed that Sanchez will play against the Colts, in what will be his fourth career playoff game.

Besides a more experienced, confident and accurate Sanchez, the Jets will also have another weapon that they didn’t count with the previous season: wide receiver Santonio Holmes. Adding a player that already knows how winning a Super Bowl ring feels like and what it takes to do so definitely adds a dose of confidence to the locker room, knowing that they can always get the ball to someone who can handle the pressure and is ready to deliver.

Revenge is in the air while Pittsburgh waits for the winner.
